Four things worth knowing before you choose:
- Nigerian PayPal accounts remain send-only. Claims circulating in 2026 that “PayPal is back in Nigeria” for receiving payments appear only on blogs and marketing sites; PayPal has published no such announcement. Do not build a plan around it.

- Any request for money from you. The FTC’s line is blunt: “Never pay to get paid or get a job.” No legitimate client charges a fee, a deposit, or “training”.
- A job offer that arrived by WhatsApp, Telegram or text out of nowhere. The FTC states plainly that real employers do not contact people that way.
- Payment promised only after a large unpaid “test”. A short paid test is normal; a 2,000-word free sample is content theft.
- Being asked to move the contract off-platform before payment protection applies.
- Work that turns out to be contacting strangers or moving other people’s money. That is not writing, and IC3 counts you as a victim, not an employee.
- A remote role that suddenly requires relocation. INTERPOL reported in 2025 that scam-centre trafficking victims came from 66 countries, with West Africa emerging as a regional hub. Treat any relocation demand as a stop signal.
